Immerse yourself in the world of Frank Lloyd Wright’s desert laboratory, Taliesin West, where he and his apprentices lived, worked, and advanced architecture. Explore the property and learn more about Wright’s work, his desert home, and his enduring principles of Organic Architecture.

This 60-minute tour is our most popular way to visit Taliesin West. It’s great for first-time visitors and those wanting to experience things at their own pace. On this tour, guests go inside buildings and explore outside. You can pause at any time, to linger in a favorite room, take photographs, or talk with our experienced team along the way.

If you like audiobooks or podcasts, you’ll love this self-guided tour, as it includes music and narration from Frank Lloyd Wright himself. The tour is delivered through your smartphone, on a free app. Don’t forget your headphones! 

DETAILS 

  • This is a 60-minute walking tour, with limited seating.
  • Your tour will be both indoors and outdoors, visiting living spaces and studio spaces.
  • The audio tour is easily accessed by using your own smartphone and headphones. Guests who don’t have this equipment may borrow devices on site, but for the best experience, bring your own device and headphones.

Explore the grounds beyond the Historic Core of Taliesin West, with our Shelters in the Desert Guided Tour. This morning tour takes you on a 90-minute hike through the beautiful desert landscape of Taliesin West. Along the way, you’ll see some of the apprentice shelters, learn about Wright’s ‘learning by doing’ philosophy, and feel the deep connection between architecture and nature.

This tour is great for anyone interested in Wright’s approach to architecture and design, as well as those who want to connect more deeply with the natural world. This experience is only offered on select days, so get your tickets early.

If you like conversation, learning, and exploring the desert landscape, you’ll love the Shelters in the Desert Guided Tour.

  • This is a 90-minute walking tour, held completely outside, through desert terrain. The distance walked totals approximately ¾ of a mile.
  • There are very limited seating opportunities on this tour.
  • This tour does not grant access to other areas on our site. If you’d like to see Wright’s living spaces or studio areas, consider taking the Self-Guided Audio Tour.

Have you ever wondered what lies beyond the Historic Core? There’s much more to see, and the Behind-the-Scenes Guided Tour can take you there.

After visiting iconic spaces like the Garden Room, guests on this two-hour journey will go beyond the ropes into areas that are not available to everyone. You’ll take in incredible views from the Guest Deck, explore the Apprentice Court and the Kitchen, and learn more about our collections and historic preservation work.

This tour is great for those who have visited Taliesin West before and are ready to see more. The group size is small, so reservations are highly recommended.

Join us for a 1-hour tour of Taliesin West, specifically created for our littlest visitors and their families. Together with a Museum Educator, you will explore Frank Lloyd Wright’s home and studio while being challenged to think about art, architecture, and history in a new way!  

This tour is ideal for families with children age 6-12; younger children are also welcome. Please reserve tickets for all attendees.

Accessibility

All Taliesin West Tours are walking tours on gravel and concrete pathways. There are shallow steps and uneven surfaces.

Ramps are available on the property and visitors are welcome to use them at their own discretion. Ramps are 36 inches wide with slopes ranging from 21 to 27 degrees. For guests who are visually impaired, Assistants are welcome on any tour free-of-charge. Please make your reservations in advance at Info@FrankLloydWright.Org

For guests who are hard of hearing, a written script of the tour is available. Hard of Hearing guests may bring a language interpreter on any tour free of charge. Please make your reservations in advance at Info@FrankLloydWright.Org

Certified service animals are permitted on all tours. Pets and other animals whose sole function is to provide comfort, companionship, or emotional support, do not qualify as service animals under the Americans with Disabilities Act or state law.
