Markley, two members of the bank’s board of directors, saw the opportunity to meet multiple needs with one plan. A new building could provide a home for the bank, new offices for their firm, and a much-needed hotel in the city center. With its unique three-part design, Wright’s City National Bank and Park Inn Hotel began to take shape. When Wright eloped to Europe with Mamah Borthwick, the unfinished project was left in the hands of Wright’s associate, William Drummond. Drummond completed the building according to Wright’s original design the following year. It is the last Wright-designed hotel in the world.
