Organic Design & Geology of Stone Wright Buildings
February 17, 2026
Taliesin West
Explore how geology shaped the design, materials, and siting of some of Frank Lloyd Wright’s most iconic stone buildings in this engaging lecture by geologist Fred Zelt. Highlighting six remarkable sites—Hillside, Taliesin, Graycliff, Fallingwater, Kentuck Knob, and Lynn Hall (designed by Fallingwater builder Walter Hall)—Zelt reveals how the earth’s deep history informed Wright’s organic architecture.
Discover how fossils, sandstone ledges, lake cliffs, waterfalls, and ancient bedrock inspired Wright’s siting, materials, and organic design philosophy.
Attendees are invited to bring a favorite rock or fossil to discuss with Fred.
Fred will share building stone samples from Wright sites for attendees to see and touch.
