A Stunning Sequel: Spoke Art + Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation

The popular “Frank Lloyd Wright: Timeless” art exhibition returned this year in a new format featuring live-streamed events and limited-edition, Wright-inspired works from over a dozen international, contemporary illustrators and artists. 2020’s exhibition will be entirely virtual, debuting in late October.

Again this year, the pieces are designed in the style of a 1930s-era Works Progress Administration (WPA)-style travel posters depicting artistic interpretations of Wright-designed buildings. A limited amount of high-quality, hand-numbered posters featured in the series will be available to purchase at Spoke-Art.com as serigraphs or archival pigment prints, also known as screen prints or giclées, ranging in price from $40 to $75 per print.

The October Virtual Debut

The virtual show launched on October 24 at 10 a.m. PDT/ 1 p.m. EDT with a “Taliesin Talk” conversational discussion live-streamed to the Foundation’s Facebook page, hosted by Vice President of Communication and Partnerships Jeff Goodman, Spoke Art Gallery Curator Ken Harman Hashimoto, and select artists from the showcase. “Our collaboration with Spoke Art is one of my favorite projects, because it exemplifies the creative ways the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation is working to advance its mission,” said Goodman. “By asking this talented cadre of diverse artists to reinterpret Wright’s designs in their own style, we are able to inspire new audiences to discover and embrace an architecture for better living. The inaugural “Frank Lloyd Wright: Timeless” exhibition debuted in 2019 with showings held at Spoke Art’s sister gallery in New York, Hashimoto Contemporary, and Wright’s lauded Taliesin and Taliesin West in Spring Green, Wis. and Scottsdale, Ariz. respectively. Despite the significant effects that arts organizations have faced as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Foundation and the Gallery chose to pivot the 2020 show to be online-only in an effort to maintain their shared initiative of inspiring and connecting with the global art and architecture community.

“With COVID-19 shutting down large swaths of the country for many months on end, the importance of the arts and support of organizations such as the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation has never been greater or more vital,” said Hashimoto. “It is my hope that our annual collaborative exhibition provides a respite to arts and architecture lovers around the world. Even though travel is restricted for most of us, I love that our show allows fans to visit, discover and learn about various Wright sites both digitally on the internet and tangibly through our series of limited edition illustrated posters.”
