Chicago’s Hyde Park Heller House is For Sale

The large rectangular Chicago-based Isidore H. Heller House spans 6,100 square feet spread among four levels including a basement for a total of seven bedrooms connected by a vintage elevator. The exterior facade is a mixture of yellow Roman brick and Indiana limestone and the interior brims with classic Arts and Crafts appeal. At the time that Frank Lloyd Wright created this residence, he was moving toward an aesthetic that would soon be known as the Prairie style, distinguished by bold horizontal lines and a strong connection between the home and nature.

Although the Heller House has had myriad owners and various renovations over the years, it retains unmistakable Wright characteristics such as the aforementioned horizontal preeminence. Another stand-out feature is the leaded glass that can be found gratuitously throughout the residence. Incidentally, the home’s glass work was designed by none other than Marion Mahony, the first licensed female architect in the United States and Wright’s colleague at the Steinway Hall office.
