Originals invites visitors to experience Taliesin West through the eyes of contemporary artists and discover what inspires them (about Taliesin West or the exhibition) to create something original in their own lives—whether a work of art, a new idea, a fresh perspective, or a meaningful change in how they live.
Every original begins with inspiration.
For artists Future Retrieval, that inspiration was Taliesin West. After spending time immersed in Frank Lloyd Wright’s desert laboratory, they created a series of original works that respond to the architecture, landscape, history, and spirit of the site.
Now it’s your turn.
As you explore the exhibition, you’ll encounter unexpected installations woven throughout Wright’s iconic spaces—objects, textures, forms, and ideas that reveal how one place can inspire many different creative responses.
Originals is more than art. It’s an invitation to ask yourself:

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
About the Artist: Future Retrieval – Katie Parker and Guy Michael Davis
Founded in 2008, Katie Parker and Guy Michael Davis have been collaborating under the name Future Retrieval, mining archives and museums to digitally collect and make objects that reexamine the history of decorative arts. Davis and Parker currently reside in Scottsdale, Arizona, where Parker is a Professor in the School of Art at Arizona State University.

Cut Paper Workshop with Artists-in-Residence Katie Parker and Guy Michael Davis
Join Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation Artists-in-Residence Katie Parker and Guy Michael Davis, of Future Retrieval, for a unique cut paper workshop. This program will explore different ways to use colored paper to recreate imagery inspired by and found at Taliesin West. Participants will learn how to layer cut paper to establish lines, shadows, depth and clarity. Using an image found or created on site, the artists will explain how to move through a series of steps to turn it into a paint by number, adding in ways to complicate, abstract, or simplify the forms.
This class will include a brief highlights tour of Taliesin West. All materials will be provided.

Artist-Led Exhibition Walk
What is the value of “Original?” Find out for yourself on a 90-minute walk through the Originals Exhibition. Led by Future Retrieval Artists-in-Residence Katie Parker and Guy Michael Davis, this journey will focus on how the objects at Taliesin West have changed over time, and can be interpreted through a new creative process, challenging the ideas of what is the value of an “original”. The artists will be joined by Bruce Brooks Pfeiffer Director of Collections & Archives, Rebecca Hagen, lending her expertise to the Foundation’s collections along the way. These tours are very limited – so get your tickets early!

PREVIOUS EXHIBITIONS
The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation is focusing on the uniqueness of the Taliesin West site and its ability to inspire artists through a program called the Exhibitions Artist-in-Residence program.
Working with artists living in the region, or staying onsite for a dedicated period of time, these exhibitions are created exclusively for our space. They are inspired by our site’s history, architecture, and natural setting, and they confront topics we explore in our work at Taliesin West.
This exhibition by Arizona based artist Erika Lynne Hanson, Desert Mirror, is one artist’s response to Taliesin West, which becomes a mirror for your own.
This exhibition was on display from January 16, 2026 – June 1, 2026. Erika Lynne Hanson reflected the layered experience of being in the desert of Taliesin West—its history, materials, beauty, and questions. Her work challenges you to look inward, outward, and homeward.

Hanson spent time walking Taliesin West, absorbing its textures, structures, changing landscape, and silences. What she felt inspired her response and became what she made. Her work invites you to experience the site in a new way: not just through what you see, but through what it stirs in you. Her work ultimately fosters a deeper empathy for, and an awareness of, all the layers of the world we live in today.
