Spoke Art Returns to Taliesin West for Third “Frank Lloyd Wright: Timeless” Pop Art Exhibition

After a successful run of in-person shows across the country in 2019, the pandemic forced the 2020 show to be a virtual experience. This year, Spoke Art will return to Taliesin West in Scottsdale, Arizona, following CDC guidelines for a safe in-person event at Wright’s winter home and studio. For those unable to attend, the artworks will be available for purchase on Spoke Art’s website.

Spoke Art is internationally known for its exhibitions that feature a curated selection of stunning artistic interpretations of popular movies and shows. The gallery’s owner and curator of the exhibition, Ken Harman Hashimoto, was interested in including Wright’s work in the gallery because of its continued relevance on not only on pop culture, but on how we can live better in our world today and into the future. That is why the show bears the name “Timeless.” Hashimoto explained, “After a year and a half spent indoors, the importance of holistic design and organic architecture has never been more imperative. Appreciating the beauty of the natural world around us, and how we connect with and live within that world, is a gift Wright left us, and we always look forward to celebrating and exploring these ideas.”

The Foundation continues the collaboration as way to introduce Wright’s work to new audiences and to advance its mission to inspire people to discover and embrace an architecture for better living through meaningful connections to nature, the arts, and each other. “The work of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation is not merely about remembering the past,” said Jeff Goodman, Vice President of Communication and Partnerships at the Foundation. “Frank Lloyd Wright always looked forward throughout his career, and we honor his legacy by influencing the growth of design through these types of collaborations. The Spoke Art show challenges a new generation of designers to interpret Wright’s architecture through their own voice and artistic vision.”

Artist Rory Kurtz returns to the show after a year’s hiatus, after his design of Taliesin in Wisconsin was one of the hits from the first show. This year, he has created a companion piece with a stunning interpretation of Taliesin West. The artist visited Wright’s winter home and studio in Scottsdale, AZ, to study the site for his piece.

“Being from Wisconsin, I was quite familiar with Taliesin when I worked on that piece,” said Kurtz. “Traveling to the Arizona desert to see how Wright applied his principles to a completely different landscape opened my eyes to the power of his organic architecture. Just like every piece of art I create is unique, Wright takes inspiration from the landscape around him to create a unique masterpiece that could only exist in that spot. I hope our audience can get a little glimpse of the wonder I experienced through the moment I captured at Taliesin West.”

Join us at Taliesin West on October 23^rd and 24^th to see the new works in person and meet some of the artists. Viewing the exhibition is free and open to the public during the hours of 10 am – 6 pm.
