Frank Lloyd Wright’s Pappas House for Sale

Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation | May 8, 2019

The historic Missouri home, on the market for $1.2 million, is a Usonian home designed by Wright, one of two Wright-designed buildings in all of St. Louis.

The T.A. Pappas House, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1955 and located in Town and Country, Missouri, is on sale for $1.2 million. The 2,310 square-foot home is on 3.36 acres on a secluded property, and features four bedrooms and two bathrooms in Wright’s Usonian style, his answer to affordable, beautiful living for the American middle class.

The home is on the National Register of Historic Places and is one of only two Wright-designed homes in St. Louis. All of the furniture designed by Wright in the home is also included in the sale. The workspace, living room, and dining area are all within a square space that includes a fireplace. As typical of most Usonian homes, the living room has higher ceilings than the bedrooms. The living room also opens to an outdoor terrace.

The Pappa’s family, who have lived in the home since it was first built, worked with Wright in the initial planning process of creating their home, but by the time they were ready to begin construction, Wright had died. The expansion of the family required several additions including an additional bedroom, as well as a family room, so the project was handed off to Taliesin Associated Architects, who saw it to completion.
