When Sharon and Susan (Hayley Mills) meet at summer camp, their identical appearance causes a rivalry that results in numerous pranks. Forced to share a cabin as punishment, the two realize they are twins, separated shortly after birth by their divorced parents. The twins concoct a plan: to switch identities in the hope of reconciling their parents.
