Members-Only Walk

Taliesin West
— Members Only
October 28, 9:30 am: Experience Taliesin West like never before….through a guided soundwalk! Led by musicologist Linyu Jolene Shao, this event invites participants to listen deeply and engage with the rich soundscape of Taliesin West. Our morning begins with a short introduction to the practice of soundwalking in the Cabaret. A 40-minute walking route then moves through spaces such as the Prow Pool, the Garden Room, the Breezeway, the Drafting Studio, and other areas not typically included in public tours.
This soundwalk experience draws attention to how space mediates auditory perception in relation to principles of “organic architecture”. Participants, guided to apply different listening modes, will observe the changing soundscapes along the route and, at the end, reflect on their own presence within these spaces. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended, as the route includes both indoor passages and gravel-covered outdoor areas.
Linyu Jolene Shao is a PhD student in Musicology and a member of the Acoustic Ecology Lab at Arizona State University. Her research explores music for advertising and community-engaged site-specific sound art. Alongside her research, she is active as a composer and audio engineer, creating work that bridges listening, storytelling, and environment. At the core of all her endeavors is her mission to “Connect with Sound.”
Our morning will begin at our check-in kiosk.
Space is limited – reserve your spot today!
