Taliesin Next—The House is a Heart: Why Historic Homes Matter

March 24, 2018
Scottsdale Community College

As Frank Lloyd Wright’s enduring legacy continues to influence innovators to create a more beautiful and sustainable world, the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation presents Taliesin Next, a new speaker series that explores how Wright’s legacy can inform the future. The speakers of Taliesin Next present their ideas through a variety of perspectives as diverse as the great architect’s multifaceted legacy.

In collaboration with Modern Phoenix

Stuart Graff, President and CEO of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, will discuss the role that historic homes and other historic structures play in our community, using notable modern homes as examples of how understanding these places—and preserving them—tells us not only our history, but also our future.

House museums and historic structures are often overlooked as core cultural institutions in their communities—instead playing secondary roles to major museums and larger institutions. Yet, these structures tell us much about the life of a community, through the lives of the people who built the community, who shaped its growth, or who made it rich with culture. Like first-person histories, historic homes give a human dimension to the great forces that shape communities.
